Steve Kemp – President, Owner
Steve has been building things since high school. He started with swimming pools, worked on the construction of residential homes in Ontario and Alberta, then worked in sales and marketing for a prestige custom homebuilder.
With more than 25 years in the industry, Steve is passionate about building better homes with improved energy efficiency. He shares that passion with his team, keeping up-to-date with the latest building science and technology, participating in pilot projects, and sharing his knowledge with industry colleagues as a member of the Homebuilders Association of Vancouver (HAVAN) Education and Training Committee, and in his past role as Vice-Chair of the HAVAN Renovation Council.
Fun Fact: Steve’s passion for homebuilding is matched with his love of downhill skiing. In an earlier life he was a certified instructor and coach, coaching the Jasper Ski Team – with a couple of his team going on to the National Ski Team.
Michael Chase – Construction Manager
Michael followed his family into the construction industry 30 years ago. Over the years, he’s developed a wealth of construction knowledge, managing capital improvement projects in commercial construction, and acquiring extensive residential construction experience.
Michael is driven to deliver projects to agreed deadlines, and treats each project as if it were his own, building strong relationships with our clients, trades, and suppliers. He makes it a point to develop a strong understanding of each client’s needs throughout a project. From the highly technical to the smallest detail, Mike goes the extra mile to deliver “well-built, every time”.
Fun Fact: Mike is a citizen of Ireland.
David Kemp – Business Operations
David started with Kemp Construction on our first renovation of a downtown condo in 2006. Before returning to the business full time in 2022, David spent over a decade in commercial construction and development in a variety of roles from LEED Consulting for multi-family homes to the Director of Sales and Project Management for a commercial sub-contractor in Delta. He’s a proven leader that has always prioritized the customer experience. He’s passionate about ensuring we continually have the right knowledge, processes, and systems in place to deliver on our 8 Kemp Promises.
Fun Fact: David cycled to Ensenada, Baja Mexico from Nanaimo BC, to return to live aboard a 30’ sailboat in Victoria.
Debbie Kemp – Behind the Scenes
Deb is ‘Behind the Scenes’ on all aspects of the business from customer service, legal, finance, technology, marketing, human resources to company strategy. In her work, she gets familiar at a high level with all aspects of our projects. Deb would say ‘taking care’ of the people in the business gives her the most joy – getting to know the homeowners and their needs. Equally fun, is the creative part of her work that oversees the company marketing. A natural connector, she’s a relationship builder with and values her time in our community.
Fun Fact: Deb loves to swim and so does the family dog and you can often see them swimming together when the tide is just right.
Jamie Struthers - Site Lead
Jamie brings over 20 year construction experience including 7 with his own residential construction company. He now leads our jobs with the same commitment as if it was his own company. In addition to having run his own company, he is a Red Seal Carpenter having worked on many challenging projects in both new home construction and renovations. As Site Lead, he works closely with Kemp customers and builds strong and trusting relationships on all projects. His attention to detail and planning expertise is a great asset to the team.
Jamie grew up in Tsawwassen and is living back in his ‘home town’ raising his young family.
Fun Fact: Jamie loves to golf – and isn’t very good at it (his words) – ask him out for a game.
Carmen Morales - Project Coordinator
Having been a successful business owner – Carmen understands the attention to details required to see a project from inception to completion. As Project Coordinator, she is an integral part of the construction project supporting our site managers and construction manager to ensure we stay on budget and schedule.
Beyond the internal project team, her role is to interact with all stakeholders on each project. For custom homes and renovations, Carmen works with our customers and sub trades and vendors. It’s a dynamic environment of scheduling, pricing, sourcing new suppliers, booking inspections and preparing information for budget reviews.
Fun Fact: Originally from Texas, she calls Tsawwassen home but still has a big place in her heart for her Texas A &M teams.
